Is Suffering a Good Thing for Addiction Treatment?

Is Suffering a Good Thing for Addiction Treatment?

There are those who believe that while going through detoxification and treatment for addiction the more you suffer the better it is for you, it will make you think more before doing drugs again or falling off the wagon. While we kind of get why they think that, as a luxury residential treatment center we obviously don’t subscribe to it.

This is not to say that residential treatment centers with programs that take that view and offer a Spartan existence in treatment are wrong. Many of them are very successful and have produced great results. However, it does seem punitive. And we’re not here to punish anybody but, rather, to help them by presenting an alternate course that is equally, if not more, successful and effective. In our view, it’s the treatment that counts.

Most of the more severe treatment programs are set programs, one size fits all. We craft each treatment program around each individual according to who they are, what their needs are and what their goals are. We use methodologies that have been proven effective, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and mindfulness training, which has had a huge impact on addiction treatment.

We maintain a smaller census to make sure each person gets maximum individual attention and therapy. But a residential drug abuse program is only as good as the people who administer it, and we have put together an international team of the most respected and experienced people in the industry.

Additionally, we seek to help people reconnect with their purpose in life. We believe most people relapse coming out of treatment because they go back to the same circumstances and routine that got them where they were to begin with. They may have “gone through” treatment but, aside from drying out or detoxing, they didn’t really change. Beating addiction requires change – in mindset and in behavior.

You must become a new person, focused, or refocused, on creating the life you want and having a reason to get up in the morning, a reason to live and a reason not to use. We spend a lot of time helping our clients with this struggle – finding that purpose. It doesn’t have to be fancy or even big, sometimes it’s not at all. Just being a better person is a great goal, turning your focus out rather than in and helping others is a fantastic purpose.

So, what role does the luxury play in our luxury drug treatment center? It’s mainly for comfort. We try to minimize the suffering and, after all, don’t you deserve some comfort? Especially going through treatment. Coming off of a long period of drug use can be very unpleasant. That’s bad enough. We’d rather minimize that and help you get through it with the least amount of discomfort possible.

We also think comfort is essential to the notion that life can be really great, even exciting. Which is why we also offer some of the most fascinating excursions you’ll ever find in a rehab. Excursions like trekking with elephants in an elephant sanctuary, tours of the ancient temples and cave systems, some of the most amazing fishing and golf on the planet, plus incredible white water rafting and zip lining through the jungle like Tarzan. We also have a Segway tour through the city and a Thai cooking class. All of this helps you realize how fantastic life can be without drugs.

So, consider it a choice. If you’re the kind of person who needs punishment to get the message there are certainly programs out there for you. If not, call us, let’s get to work on getting you better.
