Outpatient Drug Rehab

Outpatient drug rehab programs are substance abuse treatment that does not require the patient to live at the treatment center for a residential course of treatment. The treatment takes place in an office setting at scheduled appointments. Under normal circumstances this level of care is used in two cases; the person’s level of use, or abuse, is considered treatable in an outpatient program and a residential program would not be necessary, or the person is stepping down from another level of care such as residential or a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) or an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). In this level of care there is normally minimal structure, it is essentially therapy sessions as determined by the therapist or facility and usually consists of individual and group therapy sessions. The patient is often encouraged to be part of a social support system, such as a twelve-step program, as well. Life skills are also commonly taught at this level of care to help the individual integrate back into normal life without feeling the need for drugs, or the urge to use, that often leads to relapse. These skills will include things normal people take for granted, such as shopping for groceries, finding a job, taking care of an apartment and other standard situations where someone that’s been dependent on drugs may feel stress.

Outpatient Alcohol Treatment

Outpatient alcohol treatment is the same as the above, there is no distinction between alcohol addiction and addiction to other drugs. Addiction to any substance shares similarities with addictions to other drugs in how they impact the brain and how the brain begins to interpret that substance as necessary to sustain life, like the need for air and water. In other words, if the substance is not available, the brain will go into survival mode and the addict will literally do anything to obtain that substance, which is why there are so many instances of addicts deceiving friends and family, losing jobs, stealing and even ending up homeless. That’s how strong addiction can be and why it is so difficult for some people to finally get free of it. This is also why, in so many cases, addiction treatment needs to be a long-term process.

Outpatient Treatment and Lanna

At Lanna Chiang Mai, outpatient drug treatment is not an after thought. We know not every client that comes out of our residential treatment feels ready to return home and face the environment where they were accustomed to using their drug of choice. This is one of the most difficult steps and we want to make sure each client has the best chance of success, which is why we have a secondary facility set up specifically for clients who wish to step down but continue treatment before heading back home. In our secondary facility they can begin taking on the responsibilities of life, learning to accept and perform them without stress or feeling the need to use. Our secondary facility is a house within the Lanna Rehab property, in which these clients can live while getting themselves up to the challenge of going home. We work with them to help structure activities, learn new skills, and gain confidence in themselves. But, we will also work with our treatment partners around the world to make sure when you do get home your recovery will continue.
