Hope’s rehab story: Help! My husband is using drugs

Hope was a loving wife and mother, who had  ‘just a regular, everyday family’ in Wellington, New Zealand.

When her husband started drinking heavily she realised she needed help and she began searching online for solutions.

The government-funded services were not offering satisfactory help. The waiting list for a detox center alone could be 7 weeks.

The privately funded options were several tens of thousands of dollars, and Hope didn’t have confidence in the standard of care.

Things were getting worst at home. Sam’s drinking intensified and he started using methamphetamine.

This is Hope's story, in her own words.

Yes, I want to help myself or my family member. My details are below:

New Zealand drug statistics 2019

    • 0.8% of New Zealanders used the drug Methamphetamine once, or more than once, in 2016/17.
    • Drug use costs New Zealand $1.8 billion per year based on the social cost-related harm it causes.
    • Alcohol is still the most prevelant substance used.
